Founded in Fall 2012, at University of California, San Diego, we are one of
the a cappella groups on campus. Together, we sing and perform, united by a
love of music.

AUDITIONS (CLOSED UNTIL FALL 2025)
Passionate to learn and sing?
We are looking for passionate singers and vocal percussionists of any skill
level to add their unique voices to our dynamic ensemble. Experience is
helpful but not necessary. Whether you have formal training or just sing in
the shower, everyone is welcome. Natural talent is valued, so don't hesitate
to audition!
Usually held beginning of every Fall Quarter, auditions are open to all UCSD
students, so come show us what you've got and be part of a community that
values music, creativity, and camaraderie!
Want to Audition? Let's Break it Down:
Book your audition via Calendly:
Auditions will last ~16 minutes and slots are available throughout the dates and time periods shown on Calendly. If you cannot make any of the available slots, please contact us through Instagram @ucsddulynoted
or email ucsddulynoted@gmail.com
, and we will try our best to accommodate you. *NOTE: Locations will be posted daily on our Instagram.
Choose your song:
Pick a song that truly showcases your range, unique sound, and personality! *NOTE: Song must NOT be musical theater, opera, or rap.
Show up and sing:
Please arrive at least 6 minutes prior to your scheduled time. During your audition, we’ll lead you through some scales to warm you up and assess your range. After testing your sight-reading and ear, you’ll sing a minute to a minute and a half of your chosen song. *OPTIONAL: You can also do a beatboxing demonstration in which we test your ability to hold a steady beat as well as have you do a 2 minute freestyle!
Expect a Callback:
We’ll announce callbacks on the final audition day and email more information to those selected. You’ll join a mock rehearsal to meet and experience singing with our group, allowing us to see how you perform musically! *NOTE: You will be expected to follow show music, but don’t forget to have fun!
FAQ
Any tips for my audition?
Prepare by practicing your song until you feel confident. Record yourself, listen back, and make adjustments. Focus on tuning, vocal support, and control.
Can I reschedule?
If you reserved an audition slot, but can no longer make it, please message us on Instagram @ucsddulynoted
or email ucsddulynoted@gmail.com
to reschedule and we’ll be happy to accomodate you!
Can I audition for multiple groups?
You can audition for as many groups as you want! We also encourage it to find the best for you! If you are accepted into multiple groups, however, you can only choose one.
Can I have a backing track?
No. Any form of accompaniment can make it difficult for us to hear your timbre and tone. Although it is okay for you to read lyrics, we strongly prefer you have them memorized. We can also provide your starting pitch if needed.
If I didn't make it, can I try out again next year?
Absolutely! We welcome return auditonees and appreciate your enthusiasm. Every audition is a new opportunity, so feel free to give it another shot!
If I make it into Duly, what's the time commitment like?
Expect to devote about 9 hours per week: two 3-hour full group rehearsals and one 2-hour sectional. Times vary each quarter based on members’ schedules. Extra time may be needed during competition years for gigs, and recording sessions.
